As an accessibility professional, I want everyone to be able to read and use this website, including people who use screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice control, keyboard-only navigation and other assistive technologies.
Standard I aim for
This site aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. I test new content and templates with a keyboard, screen readers (including NVDA and VoiceOver), browser zoom and colour contrast tools.
What I have done
- Used a clear heading structure and landmarks on every page
- Provided a skip link to the main content
- Written text alternatives for meaningful images and marked decorative images as decorative
- Checked text and interface colours for sufficient contrast
- Made links, buttons and forms usable with a keyboard, with visible focus
- Avoided automatically opening pop-ups
Known limitations
Some content on this site comes from third parties and may not fully meet WCAG 2.2 AA, including:
- Advertisements served by third-party networks
- Embedded content such as social media posts or videos from other platforms
- Older posts that are being reviewed and updated
I review these areas regularly and fix what I can control.
Feedback and contact
If you have difficulty using any part of this site, or need content in a different format, please tell me through the contact page. Describe the page and the problem, and I will try to respond within five working days.
Assessment approach
This statement is based on a self-evaluation of the site by its author, an accessibility analyst and DHS Section 508 Trusted Tester.
